Your puppy is still a baby and hasn't had all its vaccinations yet. We provide the first two of four shots, but it takes two weeks for each to take effect. When you take your puppy home, they'll still be vulnerable for a couple of weeks. The third shot is due three weeks after the second, and the final shot is three weeks after that.
Parvovirus spreads through feces, so avoid dog parks, unknown dogs, and unfamiliar areas until your puppy is fully vaccinated. A fenced backyard with fully vaccinated animals is safe, but be cautious of your front yard or areas where unknown dogs might have been. You can mix 1 cup of Clorox with a gallon of water to disinfect areas without harming your grass.
To prevent tracking the virus indoors, place a towel soaked in this solution at your door, especially if you're expecting visitors. If you have questions, please call us.
We feed all our puppies and pregnant moms Hill's Science Diet. You'll receive a supply in your puppy's take-home bag. If you decide to switch to a different brand, please mix the Hill's Science Diet with the new food in equal parts. Gradually increase the new food's portion over time. This helps prevent diarrhea, which can occur if the transition is made too quickly.
Where To Buy
Your new puppy is just a baby and shouldn’t have full access to your house. When you can’t supervise them, keep them in a confined area like a laundry room or bathroom. Watch for signs like circling, which means they need to go to the bathroom. Keep a pad nearby when they’re out of their pen and one by the door.
Take your puppy outside often and stay out for a while, as they may want to explore and play before they realize it's time to go. Take them out 10 to 15 minutes after eating or drinking, and at least every 2 hours otherwise. Remember, a puppy’s bladder can’t hold much, and it will take up to 16 weeks for them to build up the ability to hold it longer.
The Miniature Schnauzer is not a "wash and wear" dog. They do require regular grooming every 4-6 weeks. this breed does require frequent brushing and combing, nail trimming, ear cleaning, as well as clipping or hand stripping.
As you choose a puppy, keep in mind that A LOT OF SCHNAUZERS FADE OVER TIME. This is the reason we do not guarantee color.
So black and sliver COULD end up looking like salt and pepper, liver COULD end up looking like liver pepper, and so on. So we encourage you to do your research, this way you can be comfortable with all the colors and what to expect.
